Feral Mode Live

Before the doors open: what Feral Mode Live's early builds got right

If you haven't looked at Feral Mode Live since the first builds: the grid, spots across the whole country, the profile editor, notes on people, passkeys and free Plus.

If you opened Feral Mode Live in the first builds and put it down, you missed most of what makes it work now. The map was Colorado, the profile was thin, and getting in meant waiting on an email link. The 0.13 release changed all of that. Here is what you missed, picked by what it does to an actual night out.

A person's tile in the grid: presence and status, map, tap and view buttons, their standing and name, their position at the foot

The grid

The map is still the map. Tap the button beside the search and the same people and spots become tiles, nearest first. A spot's tile tells you what kind of place it is, how far, who's there, when someone last checked in and how busy its Wall is, with a tick if it's verified. A person's tile has their position, their status, the map, Tap or Knock, and their profile, one tap each.

The map is for deciding where. The grid is for deciding who, and how soon. On a night when you have forty minutes and no patience for panning around, nearest first is the honest order. Whichever view you used last is the one you open to, so pick one and leave it.

Spots across the whole country

The map covers the whole country now, with thousands of cruising spots already on it. Locker rooms, arcades, parking lots, cruising grounds and campgrounds each have their own kind. Everyone can use a spot, Anonymous and Pending included: check in, leave a tip, flag it, post from it, add a photo.

Two habits worth building. Every spot has a Wall of its own, posts from the people checked in there, so you read the room before you drive. And if you're too far away to check in, tap On my way and say when you'll get there. That is the difference between turning up to an empty lot and turning up to people who knew you were coming. Star the spots you use and they get a tab of their own.

Directions open your phone's maps app from the spot's card. A pin you dropped by hand can go back to where your phone is when you're done.

The profile editor

About you, Statistics and Preferences, each a tap from your menu. Preferences is the part worth doing properly. Fucking, with where you sit from Top to Bottom. Sucking: receive, give or both. Meeting: host only, prefer to host, prefer to travel, meet out or travel only. Expression is one choice, Masc through Sissy, or Fluid. Sucking without Fucking makes your badge Side, with an arrow for which way.

A profile: their icon beside every standing they hold and their name, presence and status in their colors

A veteran fills this in because it ends the twenty-message interview. Read host only on one profile and prefer to travel on the other and you already know whose place it is. Every icon for a person says the same things the same way, online, tier, status, position, standing, so you learn the language once and read it everywhere.

Notes on people

With Plus, keep a private note on anyone: a name only you see, a rating, vibes and warnings. Numbers and addresses from a chat save straight into it, and a note exports as a phone contact with nothing naming the app.

Cruising has needed this for decades. The one who was late. The one who was better than their photos. The one whose buzzer doesn't work and you have to call from the street. Now the note sits on the person, not in your head at one in the morning. Plus also filters for people who can host or can travel, and shows you who looked at you.

Passkeys

Sign in with a passkey: your face, fingerprint or PIN, no email link. After an email sign-in the app offers to save one. Private things blur when you switch apps, and a private photo carries the handle of whoever is looking at it.

Plus stays free if you do the work

In any 30 days, review 5 people at the Gate or bring in 5 who get vetted, and Plus is free for the next 30. Your circle counts everyone down your line of vouches who got vetted, with badges at 10, 50 and 250. Adding places to the map earns badges too. The Invite button sits on the map beside Status.

Free Plus: enough reviews at the Gate, or enough people brought in who get vetted, in any 30 days, and Plus is free for the next 30

Read that as the deal it is. The network only works if the people in it are real, and the app pays you in Plus for keeping it that way. Five reviews a month is one evening.

Before you go

Also in there: a short tour at the top of Learn more, guides to cruising and staying safe that open before you sign in, and a Safety Center with quick exit and emergency numbers. Gone ghost, you're still reachable by the people you already talk to.

Read the tour and the guides at feralmode.live/learn, and open the app at feralmode.live.
