Feral Mode Live events: the address is the last thing you give

How events work on Feral Mode Live: post one from a long press, pick who gets in, a blurred block and a countdown on the map, and the address only in the event's chat.

Anyone who has hosted from a group chat knows how it goes wrong. The address goes out too early and gets forwarded. Twelve people say yes and four come. Someone you never wanted finds the door. Events on Feral Mode Live are built around those failures, and the fix is one rule: the address is the last thing you give, and you give it in a room only your guests can see.

Posting one

Long-press the map where it is and pick Start an event here. In the grid, the calendar button does the same. Already Hosting? Open your status and pick Make it an event. Give it a title, a start and an end (a day at most, up to two weeks ahead), how many people it has room for, your rules and a few tags. The description takes up to 5,000 characters, with headings, bold, lists and links, and a preview as you write.

Write the rules. A host who has done this before puts the house rules where people read them before they ask in, not at the door.

Events are In person or Virtual, each with its address or link, shown to whoever's in. An event can repeat: daily, weekly, every two weeks or monthly, each date with its own guest list and chat. The next date is made only once this one is over, the guest list carries over and everyone is asked again each time. Last month's yes is not this month's yes.

Who gets in

Three doors. Anyone trusted: any vetted member joins with a tap and goes straight into the chat. You approve each one: people ask, you see their photo, handle, distance, position, age and headline, and let them in or not. Invite only: it isn't on the map at all. You invite people you've talked to and they join with a tap.

Anyone trusted joins with a tap; with You approve each one, people ask and you decide; Invite only isn't on the map

Whatever you picked, you can invite people you've messaged, and you can take someone off the list. They leave the chat with it. Hosts see who they've invited on its own tab of the guest list. Pending and Anonymous accounts don't see events at all.

A no is silent. Someone you turn down isn't told, and their page still says they asked. Nobody has to explain a no, which is the only way a door list stays honest.

What the map shows

The map never shows your address. The event sits on a blurred block around where you pressed, the same size as your own tile, and the point you pressed isn't kept. A countdown to the start sits under it, and the event comes off the map when it ends.

The event sits in the middle of a blurred block your tile's size, with a countdown under it; the point you pressed isn't kept

If you add a photo, it has to be safe for work and it shouldn't show your place: no door, no street, no view a neighbor would know. People can work out an address from a photo. You choose whether everyone sees it or only whoever's in.

The chat

Everyone who's in is in the event's chat, with you, names over the messages. That is where you give the address, when you're ready. Photos sent there stay in the chat. From a long press you pin a message, delete one, mute someone for a day or remove them. Anyone can report a message from the same press. @mention someone when the answer is for one person. The chat closes a day after the event ends, and past events are deleted 30 days on, with their chats and photos.

How a veteran runs it: pin the rules and the arrival window. Mute the one who asks for the address an hour early. Give the address once, to everyone, when you're dressed and the place is ready.

In your calendar

The calendar button adds it to Apple, Outlook or Google Calendar, with a reminder an hour before. Calendars sync to other devices and to anyone you share yours with, so it goes in as "Plans" and the time, nothing else, unless you turn on Show what it is. Your calendar never gets the address. Invitations come by email too, ready to add to your calendar.

In your calendar it's Plans and the time; with Show what it is, its name too. Never the address

Getting there

Before an in-person event starts, the host can send Meet requests to the guests. Tap On my way and the host sees you coming. If the host keeps the address for Meet, you get it as you set off. Your live events sit in Happening now, above the tab bar on every screen. Called-off events can be cleared out of Chat, one at a time or all at once.

If something's wrong

Every event has Report this event in its menu, and a report is about the host. Blocking works here too: you won't see their events, they won't see yours, and in an event chat you won't see each other's messages.
